brighten your smile with toot whitening

TOOTH WHITENING

Over time teeth can become stained by the food and drink we consume. Smoking can further stain teeth and the natural bright, white smile that you once had may gradually become darker.

At Hertfordshire Dental Group we use a state of the art whitening system called Enlighten. Enlighten is the only whitening system in the world to guarantee their results and achieve the whitest shade of natural tooth enamel.

LET'S TALK ABOUT TOOTH WHITENING

How many visits are required to the practice?

Normally three visits. You will need to book in for an appointment to a have a dental impression taken. This impression will be used to make your custom fit whitening trays. You will then require an appointment two weeks later to have your whitening trays fitted. The active whitening treatment takes 14 nights. At the end of treatment you will return to the practice to review your treatment and ensure that you are happy with the results. We may carry out a further in-surgery treatment at this point, if necessary.

Can tooth whitening damage my teeth?

No, however, a dentist will need to assess your teeth and gums before you undertake tooth whitening to check that you have no underlying problems. Tooth whitening will not cause any damage to teeth that are healthy and free from decay. This is why it is so important for a dental health professional to carry out this procedure, as only they are able to properly assess your dental health before the procedure.

Will I have any discomfort with tooth whitening?

Some patients do report varying levels of sensitivity either during or after whitening. If you are aware that you suffer from sensitivity, we can provide you with a de-sensitising gel that you use for two weeks before your whitening to help control the sensitivity.

What is the cost of tooth whitening?

The cost of tooth whitening is either from £350 or from £600 depending on the system you choose; your dentist will help you decide which is more suited to your requirements. The cost includes your custom made trays, whitening gel and in-house whitening.

I’ve got crowns/veneers/fillings on my front teeth – will these whiten too?

No, only your natural tooth enamel will respond to whitening. If you are unhappy with the shade of your crowns or fillings, your dentist can advise you on the options available.

Can I use my custom trays again after the initial whitening procedure?

Your trays will last for a long while if they are cared for correctly. It is important that you clean your trays after every use with a toothbrush and warm water and store them in the container provided. If you wish to whiten your teeth again in future, you can purchase top-up gels from reception.
